Hunter in his Bear Grylls Extreme Jacket, ready to take on the elements with Dad!

Say hello to Hunter, the 6 year old explorer with a passion for adventure.

To celebrate the launch of our new Kids Collection, we caught up with the Sloly family who recently visited Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons with their son, Hunter, the 6 year old explorer.

Keep up with Hunter’s adventures >

Meet the Sloly Family

With a burning desire to explore the natural wonders of Planet Earth, the Sloly family take every opportunity to get outdoors and into nature. They have a trusty VW camper van (Thunderbolt) in which they explore the UK, and public transport and walking boots for the rest of the world. Annette’s first experience of hiking was when she was 6, in the incredible Tatra Mountains with her Grandfather, the same Summer her Mum taught her how to row, and fillet a fish for dinner.  Having travelled to some of the most obscure places in the world on family holidays, David continued along the same line, one year crossing the Sahara in his Land Rover Safari to meet The Tuareg, the “Blue Men” of the Desert. These experiences have helped shape their family values and passions which they are now passing onto their son, Hunter, a curious 6 year old explorer with a passion for adventure

Visiting the Brecon Beacons

From abseiling and rock climbing to stargazing and walking, the Brecon Beacons hosts a broad spectrum of exciting activities for adventurers of all ages. The Sloly Family recently paid a visit to this area of Wales and shared their favourite walks and things to do in the Brecon Beacons.

Pen Y Fan

Beautiful views onto the rolling Welsh countryside, and beyond.

Adventures with Hunter

This is Annette’s favourite walk – Not suitable for kids. Allow 5-6 hours. Start at Cwm Gwdi carpark, walk up and through gate, up into the Gorse, past the Victorian military camp and stop. Look behind you. Walk up over the hill, and then it really opens up from there. Stop. Look behind you! Be prepared for a little scramble at the top and you are at the summit of Pen y Fan. Beautiful views onto the rolling Welsh countryside, and beyond.

Corn Du

The view is beautiful, and shows off the Brecons in its full glory.

adventures with Hunter

A lovely walk to do with kids in good weather is from The Storey Arms pub (no longer serving) and follow the path over the stream, passing heather and sheep on your way, and up, up, up through the clouds to the summit of Corn Du. A little walk down and up again, and you reach the summit of Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in Britain south of the Snowdonia mountain range. Take time to stop, turn around, and look behind you along the route. The view is beautiful, and shows off the Brecons in its full glory. Take something to eat at the top, its a lovely place to picnic and take in the vista. Make sure you get a photo with the kids at the summit.
