Surrounded by stunning, crystal clear landscapes with mighty mountains, glistening glaciers and floating ice sheets all around you, the North Pole is a surreal experience that will take your breath away.
Wondering what you can actually get up to at the North Pole and the countries that surround it? We’ve put together a list of some of the top things to do out there…

Northern Lights Holidays & Holidays To See Polar Bears

1. Holidays to see the Northern Lights
The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is one of the most astounding, natural phenomena in the world. They’re caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the Earth’s atmosphere. You can cast your eyes upon the lights on special Northern lights holidays.

The lights can be seen from several different locations, but we recommend seeing them at Svalbard, a small Island belonging to Norway. It’s well into the Arctic circle and one of the most Northern regions, bettering your chance of seeing the lights.

Seeing the Northern Lights requires clear skies, patience and warmth – so make sure you wrap up warm, you could be waiting hours to see them. We know that doesn’t sound ideal, but nothing compares to the magical and mystical light show Of the Aurora Borealis.

2. Spot incredible native wildlife
The North Pole is home to some of the most wild and majestic creatures on Earth, including the largest land carnivore – the great, white polar bear! Get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures on a polar bear safari in safely designed and equipped tundra vehicles.

What’s more, Svalbard is one of the best places to see these beauties along with arctic foxes, walruses, whales, puffins and even reindeers! These creatures’ adaptation to extreme, harsh temperatures makes them even more spectacular.

3. Sail off on an Arctic Northern Lights cruise
Why not set sail aboard a luxury arctic cruise to have the full arctic experience? Choose from different types of cruises including various activities such as kayaking, whale watching, wildlife viewing, scuba diving, snorkelling and so much more. An Artic Cruise, on average, will last about 10 days, meaning you can visit several different countries in the region.

The best time of year to go on an arctic cruise is summer, where sunshine is at an all-time high for the full 24 hours of the day. What more could you ask for than clear blue skies and stunning glittery views?

4. Set foot on Glaciers
For those of you who need even more of a thrill while you’re out there, Glacier Hiking is a unique activity, allowing hikers to experience mystical white and blue, ever-changing ice sculptures up close and personal, not to mention you get to explore numerous spectacular ice caves. Remember to pack a warm insulated jacket to keep you cosy on these arctic expeditions.

Our recommended place for a glacier hike on an arctic adventure holiday has to be Reykjavik, in Iceland, it’s a great location for less experienced hikers without exposing you to danger. Don’t worry, you’ll have a guide with you along the way and all the necessary equipment needed to safely carry out the hike.
