Discovering: Cuba

Arriving in Cuba

I visited Cuba at the end of May and it was amazing – I was all prepared. Unfortunately, you can’t get their currency abroad and need to get it locally, but the best places I found are in the Banks or at your hotel. They have a dual currency system called Local Pesos and CUC, (Stick with CUC as the local money is more like monopoly money, and you would need barrels full of it to buy anything, plus a lot of touristy shops would not even accept the Local Pesos.

During my stay, I found that most tourists that visiting resided from Canada, the UK and Germany – and you will find quite a lot of tourists from other Latin American countries due to the low prices in Cuba. It only takes about 3 hours to fly from Canada to Cuba, so no wonder that they love it here! We went to the North East of the Country to Guardalavaca, which was incredible – it was extremely clean and the people were amazing and friendly.

amazing beach

The Beaches were really sandy, and you will see locals going into the water to catch fish quite often. There are a lot of stray dogs around who sleep under the sunloungers and usually get fed by the tourists. But when everything fails, catch their own meal on the beach, Crab or Fish anyone?!

city

We embarked on a day trip to Sanitago de Cuba, which is a beautiful colonial City in the South East of Cuba – I’d highly recommend a visit if you get the chance!
