The Layering System
Layering is key to staying on your Gaisce journey. Whether you are walking in heavy rain or glorious sunshine, you can never tell when the conditions may change and so it’s always good to be prepared.
The layering system generally comprises of a base-layer, mid-layer and outer-layer. Worn together they provide the optimum warming/cooling system for you to tackle any outdoor challenge.

Gaisce – The President’s Award is a personal development programme for young people aged 14-25. It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, to all young people to dream big and realise their potential. To achieve the award, participants need to complete challenge areas which are; Personal Skill, Physical Recreation, Community Involvement, and an Adventure Journey.
To start your Gaisce journey, the first step is to connect with a Gaisce Award Partner, an organisation who is actively running Gaisce.
With their support, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated President’s Award Leader (PAL) to support your registration, participation and completion.

Gaisce Participants achieve a Gaisce Award by completing Challenge Areas: Personal Skill, Physical Recreation, Community Involvement, and an Adventure Journey. President’s Award Leaders deliver, guide and support Gaisce Participants undertaking the Award.
The Gaisce Award programme has three Award Levels, starting with Bronze and progressing to Silver and Gold. Find out more about each Award Level below.
