Q&A with AKSEP19 | Behind the Archive Campaign

Can you remember the first piece of street art you ever did?

I think the first piece of street art I did was a portrait of John Malkovich I painted in Hulme back in 2011

If you weren’t a street artist, what do you think you would be doing?

I studied chemistry and worked for 15 years as a scientist until I was made redundant back in 2018; I would probably still be working as a scientist if I did not make the decision to paint full time.

When you’re not creating art, what are you doing?

I love cinema so I like to watch movies or series during my spare time (after my dad’s duties). I also enjoy martial arts and have been practising Muay Thai for over 15 years.

What is one piece of advice you would give to somebody wanting to do what you do?

I would say, keep practising and don’t give up if you’re passionate about it, it took me over 25 years before I could make a living as a full-time artist

Where did the inspiration come from for the Craghoppers plastic pollution piece?

I wanted to illustrate the fact that although most of us are aware of plastic pollution, it is more difficult to really see the detrimental effect it has on our planet in the long term.
