Deserts are some of the driest places on Earth but can offer some of the most spectacular and otherworldly landscapes our plant has to offer. From the Kalahari to the Sahar, these landscapes have unique flora and fauna to discover.

Travel Guide: Desert Holiday

In order to know what to pack for a trip to the desert, you need to be mindful that the days in the desert are very hot while the nights can get very cool, so think layers and versatility when it comes to packing.

When hiking in the desert for extensive periods of time, you need to be ready for just about everything nature can throw at you. And most importantly, desert adventurers need to cover up as much as possible in order to minimise the risk of sunburn. Our SolarShield technology offers up to UPF 50+ protection.

Tech Spec

When traveling in a hot desert, you should dress in breathable, light weight clothing during the day and change into something warmer as the temperatures drop at night. There is little to no shade in the desert so protecting your skin from the suns rays is crucial.

Temperature: During the day, desert temperatures rise to an average of 38°C (a little over 100°F). At night, desert temperatures fall to an average of -3.9°C (about 25°F
Conditions: Hot, dry and cold evenings Terrain: Rocky and sandy
Technologies: NosiLife, SolarShield & ThermoPro

Long sleeve shirts and trousers which are lightweight are ideal, like our NosiLife adventure shirt or our NosiLife trousers. Biting insects can also be a problem in the desert, that's why we recommend our insect-repellent range; NosiLife. Access to water and washing facilities may be scarce, thankfully our NosiLife range has in-built odour-elimination technology.

As the sun sets, temperatures can drop, we recommending taking some lighter weight insulating layers like our Compresslite jacket which uses our ThermoPro technology. It packs into its own stuff sack, meaning it takes up very little room in your luggage.

Accessories – We offer a range of accessories perfect for desert environments. We recommended a wide brim hats to keep the sun out of our eyes, our NosiLife desert hat is ideal as it features a Zip up roll-away sun protection for your neck. Good footwear is really important, our Salado boots are award winning, they’re grippy enough for sandy and rocky surfaces but breathable in the hot temperatures, they also feature our NosiLife technology to ward off biting insects. We also recommend a sturdy set of walking poles. Plus insect repellent socks to repel insects from your ankles.
