In June 2023, Experience Community with the support of Craghoppers, organised a ramble at Bempton Cliffs for participants that enjoy rambling and bird watching.
RSPB Bempton Cliffs, located on the stunning East Yorkshire coastline of England, is a renowned nature reserve famous for its awe-inspiring cliffs teeming with seabirds. Visitors can witness breathtaking displays of puffins, gannets, guillemots, razorbills, and kittiwakes, among other species. While bird watching and rambling are popular activities at the reserve, it's crucial to ensure that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife encounters it offers.
Although the RSPB have made great efforts to make the reserve accessible by adding accessible toilets and accessible viewing platforms, exploring natural reserve can be challenging without the use of a specialised mobility equipment.
For this ramble, participants used Mountain Trikes, an all-terrain wheelchair specifically designed to tackle outdoor environments. This innovative mobility solution combines the manoeuvrability of a wheelchair with the robustness and stability of a mountain bike. Its three-wheel design, ergonomic features, and suspension system enable disabled individuals to traverse various terrains, including gravel paths, uneven surfaces, and grassy slopes.
By the end of the ramble, the participants were all very happy as everyone managed to spot some puffins and enjoyed a coffee and slice of cake at the café at the end of the day.
