Greenspaces – The Way Forward to Find Peace of Mind

There is nothing better than getting outside, breathing in the fresh air and taking time to admire the views around you. It makes you feel great both mentally and physically. But with the current government rules (June 2020) saying we should stay local – you can find that every man and his dog have the same idea. Before you know it, your idyllic local spot is amassed with people and social distancing is hard to come by.

So how can we get outside, stay local, whilst still staying away from the crowds?

OS has a FREE Greenspace layer on their maps to enable you to easily identify green spaces across Britain. These are alternative spaces out there for you to explore, but are not as crowded as the usual routes. In addition to the public parks, playing fields and sports facilities that are listed, OS have also added Country Parks, Nature Reserves and Access Land to the map.

So whatever your activity, whether you want to run, walk – with or without a dog – or bike, and wherever you are in England, Scotland and Wales, the OS Greenspace layer will help you find different places for leisure and recreation. It can even identify the public access to all greenspaces before you travel.

Don’t forget to:

  • Follow government guidelines.
  • Respect the individual rules for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
